Wide Angle / Macro Attachment

Hellooooooooo and Happy Wear a Dress Tuesday!

I'm not sure what got into us last night, but Bruce and I were literally listening to Eminem until 1:00 in the morning.

I think uploading this picture allows me to file this post under the category "bold blogging".

Anyhoo, I'm a little tired this morning, but nothing a little coffee and bagels can't fix.

And apparently nothing a little Eminem can't fix either, because for the life of me I CANNOT get the song, "Lose Yourself" out of my head!  Bruce, THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT!

Okay, so moving on.  During yesterday's physical/mental/emotional health day I spent a lot of time doing nothing, but I also spent a lot of time playing with my camera.  One thing I noticed in reading your comments is that you all unwind by doing "nothing", but you all also unwind by doing something that gets your mind working, but that you really enjoy.  For me, exploring photography is one of those things.  I definitely don't know what I'm doing most of the time, but I am having so much fun learning and playing around.

Enter ...
... this little nifty attachment, the 58mm 0.45x Wide Angle / Macro Attachment.  It pops onto your lens (the 18-55mm stock lens that came with my Rebel XSi) and either gives you a more opened shot or acts as a macro setting and lets you pick up incredible detail.  Here are some side by sides ...

These are two pictures I took of our new office space last week.  The one on the left is with my 18-55mm lens, zoomed all the way out.  The photo on the right is with the attachment on - standing in the EXACT SAME SPOT.  Isn't it neat how it opens up the frame a little bit?

The downside is that if you have the lens zoomed all the way out with the wide angle attachment on, you see a little bit of the rim in your shot - so the photo on the right is actually a tiny bit zoomed in - and you can still see more in the shot!  So cool.

Here is just the macro setting ...

My rings.  The photo on the left - just the 18-55mm.  Zoomed out and still a blurry mess.  The photo on the right - with the macro attachment.  Un-freaking-believable, really.  This attachment is worth it just for the macro attachment alone!

Oh - the best part?  Did you look at the price?  You can get this puppy for UNDER $10 on amazon.  It was about $11 for me including shipping - I had $10 in amazon giftcards (thank you swagbucks!) so this piece cost me a buck.  $1.  It costs more for a diet coke at the airport.

That, my friends, is what you call a bargain.

So if you have this particular lens, I would encourage you to check out the attachment.  If you have a dSLR with a different stock lens, search around - because they do have this attachment for other lenses, you just have to find the right one.  It is well worth the (small) investment!

(Oh - and you can check out all of my photography equipment here.)

Have a great day!  See you tonight for WADT pictures!

  1. Oh how cool!!! I didn't know they had things that could do that. I love messing with photo settings and things too. :)
