Dam ... What a Weekend!!

After browsing through REI's selection of camera backpacks yesterday morning, Bruce and I decided to head north to the Buford Dam Trail along Lake Lanier in Cumming, Georgia for some light hiking and picture taking.

(If you are curious, we settled on the Mountainsmith Spectrum Camera Pack.  It was a little bit pricey, but I can safely carry both my camera and my laptop - as well as a notebook or two and some books - in the backpack and we thought it was worth it to spend a little extra to protect my new 'baby' camera.)

The Buford Dam was built to reduce flooding and create hydroelectricity.  It is a really neat place to hike, fish, grill out, etc.  There were a lot of people at the little park area by the dam itself, but the trails were pretty quiet, which was great for us.

I love how still everything is this time of year.  It is almost like nature is saying to us, "Be patient ... spring is coming."

See what I mean?

I climbed out onto the rocks to get a better view of the river and Bruce called out behind me, "If you fall in, keep your camera arm up and out of the water!!"

(Luckily, I stayed on my feet.)

The storms and flooding over the past couple of months have done a lot of damage to the trees out on the trail.

It's a shame we couldn't take any home for firewood.

Or, you know, to build a log cabin.

Instead, it just made for some rough terrain and great photo opportunities.

Didn't I have a handsome hiking partner?

The fuel.

The gear.

Running water.

Perfect. Day.

I hope everyone else had a fabulous weekend!!

(p.s. Do you like my new blog design? I loved the green after the New Year because it seemed clean and crisp. Now I am ready for the pinks and purples of spring!!)

  2. Sounds like a fun adventure you had this past weekend! Your photos were great, especially the one of the running water. Perfect!

I love your blog design and the pinks are perfect for the spring. It seems like pink is in season this year. I like that as it's very feminine.

Thanks for stopping by Heart Choices. I always love to read your comments.

    Blessings,

  3. I'm with Gib on the pink. And I'm jealous of your hiking - the closest national park to here has more crying babies in strollers then scenic views!
