Worship

Someone once asked me how I (and clergy in general) worship on Sunday mornings when there are so many other things going on.

The answer?  I don't.  Not fully, anyway.  There's just too much going on.

I am a firm believer that worship does not have to happen on Sunday mornings and it does not have to happen within the walls of the church building.  As important as it is to be part of some kind of church or worship community, I think it is equally important to find ways to nurture your spiritual needs outside of the traditional 'church' worship service.

The lack of 'complete' worship on Sunday morning doesn't bother me because I find myself worshiping in so many other ways and places

I worship on Tuesday nights when I sit in my office working and hear the choir rehearsing above me.  I worship in the late afternoon when I am peacefully pulling weeds in the vegetable garden with my sweet husband.  I worship anytime I have my camera in my hand and I am framing the perfect shot.  I worship when I listen to one of my favorite songs on repeat.

And I worship on long walks at dusk.

It was a great night for worship!

  2. I agree! 98% of worship should happen outside of Sunday services. We are to live lives of worship. Sitting in a pew on Sunday morning is not fully living a life of worship. Important? YES! But it is not everything.

  3. This is a fabulous post, and I couldn't agree more. I'm glad that you're able to find time to worship in your own way, and not when you have a long list of things to do on Sundays:) Great pictures too by the way!
