I had a meeting at a church about 45 minutes away this evening, so I carefully made the trek there and back. Between the bad winter and all the rain, the roads are in really bad shape! It was also really foggy and hard to see. I'm glad to be home!
Bruce ordered pizza while I was gone so I happily grabbed a slice and joined him in the family room (that's Friends on in the background!) for the duration of the evening.

As I was driving home tonight, I was thinking about the fact that in less than a month, I'm going to be living in a completely new state!
The other day I went to look something up on Bruce's laptop, saw that he had Massachusetts wikipedia page pulled up and we had the following conversation ...
Me: Were you wikipedia-ing Massachusetts?
Bruce: Sarah, I know NOTHING about Massachusetts!
Me: Good point.
What do you think is the best way to learn about a new area that you are moving to? When we moved to Atlanta I was so focused on school that we just kind of started there and eventually figured out the city. This is completely different!

ReplyDeleteSecondly, I have lived in upstate NY all of my life, EXCEPT for the 2 years that we lived in Georgia (Buford). I wish I had done some more research before I hastily decided that we MUST move there, lol. Needless to say, we are now back in NY.
http://www.city-data.com has a lot of useful information and can be a great place to network with residents of the area you're moving to. Check out the forums! :)

ReplyDeleteWhen I was working at a camp outside of Boston I would just go in to the city and walk around like a tourist every weekend. I got lost when I went underground haha. I did much better on the streets with my trusty little tourist map haha. Although it would have been fun to have someone that was from the area take me to things that weren't touristy.
I always buy a travel book for the state I'm moving to. It was a recommendation from my mom when we found out we were moving the first time. It's helpful because then you have a nice list of all the "must see's" and "must-do's". Getting to know people you find out all the hot spots as well :)
