Turkey Convention Of 2011

I was making lunch this afternoon when I looked out the window and stopped dead in my tracks.  There were turkeys everywhere!

I don't know where they came from, but Bruce and I were completely mesmerized!  Eventually they wandered off.  How random ...

After the Turkey Convention of 2011 was over, lunch seemed so ... boring.  Still delicious, though!

I took last night's chicken teriyaki and created a delicious salad out of it.

In the mix:
- Romaine lettuce
- Chopped walnuts
- Leftover rice, warmed up
- Leftover chicken teriyaki, warmed up
- Drizzled with cold teriyaki sauce for extra flavor!

It definitely hit the spot.  It would have been better if I had some buttery toasted bread to serve with it - mmm, next time.

Anyone else have a bizarre animal run-in lately?

  2. I've only seen live turkeys a few times trotting across the road whenever I'm going to see my horse..but never like that!

  3. How funny is that?!

My bizarre animal story is from awhile ago - okay, now that I think about it, it's been about nine years, which just makes me feel way too old - and also involves turkeys. It was the second semester of my freshman year in college, and I was driving to school one morning, when what crosses the road in front of me? A (I assume) mother turkey and a row of five or six babies. This was in the middle of a residential street, no less, and to this day, I have no idea where they came from. Everyone driving just stopped and watched. If only I'd had a camera with me!

Maybe turkeys are just innately friendly animals? :P

  5. That salad looks amazing! My mouth is seriously watering now! When I was visiting my cousin in upstate NY I saw a bunch of wild turkeys - I'd never seen one before. I was mesmerized.

  6. okay, the salad looks delicious. however... what i was thinking when i saw the picture of all the turkeys, and then the salad...

"Seeing all those turkeys made us hungry. So we had a turkey salad." Which was wrong, and yet somehow hilarious. I'm still glad it was a CHICKEN salad, tho. ; )

  7. We have a large fox running around our neighborhood. I welcome him because I am hoping that the skunks that keep showing up (3 Years now) will not come back! So crazy to look out your front window and see a large fox here in Delaware. Thanks, Sherri

  8. haha that photo is hysterical of the turkeys! We live by a bird sanctuary and there are always heron wandering around the roads. They always remind me of hick hikers waiting to be picked up. And that salad is making me hungry!
