WADT, A New Kind Of Breakfast And Some Inspiration

Oh my goodness, big day!  Stick with me - this post is going to have a lot!

1. Happy Wear a Dress Tuesday!  It is definitely a special one, because I am guest posting over at A Blonde Ambition for Leslie about the movement.  Read the post here!  For those of you coming over from Leslie's blog - welcome!  It is so nice to meet you.  You can learn more about me here and if you're on twitter, follow along!  And check out WADT on Facebook - we're growing an awesome community over there!

2. Breakfast!

I dipped into my newly acquired family recipes this morning and made Baked Oatmeal!

I was a little impatient during the baking process and ended up exploding butter all over the microwave (sigh) ...

But it turned out really good!  I'm going to try again and then I'll post the recipe (sans butter explosion).

With some black coffee, of course!  I was reading through the comments off of yesterday's post about how I drink my coffee - apparently it's not normal to drink it black?  I only have Bruce to compare it to and he drinks it black, too.  It's just something I learned how to do in college - I didn't have the money or patience to keep milk or cream in my dorm room, so I drank it black!  Let's do a comments poll - how do you drink your coffee?

3. Inspirational Quotes!

The other day I was feeling stressed about life and I started thinking about some of my favorite go-to quotes.  Reciting them over and over again helped to calm me down and it made me wonder if anybody else had quotes or mantras that they thought/meditated/prayed about when they were stressed.  I emailed Laura and she thought it would be a great topic for a blog hop over at Girl Talk!

Here are my two favorite quotes:

“Good therapy helps. Good friends help. Pretending we are doing better than we are doesn’t. Shame doesn’t. Being heard does.”

- Anne Lamott, Plan B: Further Thoughts on Faith

“[Rome] has grown up around [ruins] over the centuries. It feels like a precious wound, a heartbreak you won’t let go of because it hurts too good. We all want things to stay the same. Settle for living in misery because we’re afraid of change, of things crumbling to ruins. Then I looked at around to this place, at the chaos it has endured – the way it has been adapted, burned, pillaged and found a way to build itself back up again. And I was reassured, maybe my life hasn’t been so chaotic, it’s just the world that is, and the real trap is getting attached to any of it. Ruin is a gift. Ruin is the road to transformation.”

- Eat Pray Love

Head over to this post if you need to feel a little bit of inspiration today (and write your own posts and link up!).  I hope you feel inspired EVERY day - but especially on Wear a Dress Tuesday.
I love you guys - thank you for keeping me sane.

xoxo

  1. I drink my coffee black, too. I'm always amazed at the number of people who comment on how weird this is. My parents both drink their coffee black so I guess it's always just seemed normal to me.

I used to put a little Splenda in, but have since cut those kinds of sweeteners out..so black it is!

  5. "Pretending we are doing better than we are doesn't help." That is a great sentence! That is why I try to encourage others to live honestly. To shed the layers and masks.

Thanks for the great idea for a hop! I'm loving reading everyone's quotes!

  6. Great quotes! And great idea for the hop! I participated as well :)

And I drink my coffee with milk and sugar. Without it, it's just too bitter to me! Or sometimes, if I'm feeling fancy, some caramel flavored creamer! mmmmmmm. (although at almost 34 weeks pregnant I am currently not drinking any coffee...and haven't for the last 8+ months...)

  10. I just found your blog, love it! It's so interesting that you are heading towards being a Church of Christ minister.

And I never seem to make up my mind how I like my coffee. :) Sometimes black, capp, lattee, just milk, anything. Anything caffeinated, basically. :)

  11. I drink my coffee black. And sometimes I like peppermint mochas. But I don't consider them from the same bean.

  13. I drink my coffee with sugar only. I used to add cream, until I was in college and never bothered to stock it. Although I'm pretty much in love with latte from starbucks, which do have steamed milk in them
