Brown Sugar and Walnut Oatmeal

Good Morning!  Happy Wear a Dress Tuesday!

I took this picture around 12:15 in the morning.  An hour later, the clouds rolled in and it was hard to see anything.  I decided that was my sign to go to bed and catch the eclipse on the morning news.

Bruce and I did have fun attempting to stay up for the big event.

My pretzel-lovin' husband had bought this Auntie Anne's at-home pretzel baking kit before we moved, but with a mostly-packed kitchen, we couldn't really figure out how to make them.

Okay, okay, so Auntie Anne may not be recruiting us for her next franchising opportunity, but they still tasted great!

Once we realized that we weren't going to stay up for the lunar festivities, I made myself a cup of sleepytime vanilla to help me unwind.

Now that's my kind of nightcap.

As much fun as last night was, I was a little slow moving this morning (one day I'll learn that I can't stay up late like I did in college anymore).

I decided to pull this bag of caffeinated goodness out of the freezer for the bleary-eyed occasion.  My church has ordered Equal Exchange for years (it's Fair Trade), but the Sisters' Blend is something new that I haven't been able to try yet.  My mom buys this stuff in bulk, so I swiped a bag from her freezer when she wasn't looking last week.

The verdict?  I love the flavor!  Definitely one that I would buy again.

Brown Sugar and Walnut Oatmeal for breakfast!

Simple Recipe:

- 1/3 cup oatmeal
- 2/3 cup water
- 1/3 cup chopped walnuts
- 2 tsp. brown sugar

Combine the oatmeal and water on the stove on med-high heat, stirring often.
When it starts to bubble, reduce heat to medium.
Once oats are almost to desire consistency, fold in chopped walnuts.
Remove from heat.
Top with brown sugar.

So simple!

Still waiting for the caffeine to kick in, though ...

Have a great day!

  1. Oh! Our church gets Equal Exchange too, but I've never seen the Sisters Blend. I'll have to ask about it.

  4. I didn't even try to stay up for the eclipse because I knew I wouldn't be able to function today if I had.

And I say another blogger post about those pretzels, and well I really want to try baking them myself!
