On Heels and Carhartt

I have a fashion question.

It involves Carhartt.

And heals.

But I'll get to that in a minute.

After a frigid ride into work on my scooter, my mouth was literally watering over the thought of some bread and soup for lunch.  I made a quick trip to the grocery store and $4 later had this ...

I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I ate all but three bites of that loaf of bread.  But it was so good.  I couldn't help myself.

I think when we get to Connecticut I should "volunteer" to store my dad's bread machine at our house!

Bruce is working late tonight, so I came home and snacked on some Simply Baked Nachos while I figured out what I wanted for dinner ...

... but ultimately decided I didn't feel like cooking and made myself a PB&J.

Classically delicious.

Dessert!

Okay, onto my fashion question!

Carhartt - Before I met Bruce, I didn't know what Carhartt was.  What can I say?  We weren't super outdoorsy people.  We went to see broadway shows a lot.  We bought coats and jackets that would keep us warm from a building to the car and back.  When I met Bruce I was amazed at how warm his Carhartt jackets were, but didn't think they were really designed for women.  Until the 2008 election.

The morning of the 2008 presidential election I took a New Testament exam, scooted to my polling place to cast my vote and headed home to watch the election day coverage.  I watched each of the candidates cast their ballots.  President Obama, Vice President Biden and Senator McCain all wore very conservative suits.  Their wives all wore dresses or suits and heels according to their individual styles.  Governor Palin, on the other hand ...

... was wearing jeans, heels and a carhartt jacket.  And girlfriend made that look work.  From that day on, I wanted my own Carhartt jacket so I could try to pull off the same look.  Actually, I also wanted to move to Alaska so it would be cold enough to wear a Carhartt.  :)

Last year for Christmas, I squealed with glee when I opened up almost the same jacket from my inlaws.  I was so excited!  But let's be honest.  It rarely gets cold enough to wear the thing in Atlanta.  HOWEVER - it was 40 degrees and windy/rainy this morning and it feels even colder when I hit 40/45 mph on the scooter.  So I pulled out my Carhartt this morning ... and then put on jeans ... and then zipped up my spiky black boots.  When I got to work a friend of mine did a double take when she saw me in Carhartt - but thinks I could pull it off and still look feminine when I paired it with the jeans/boots.

What do you think?  Yes?  No?  Horrified that I am using a politician as a fashion icon?  Rethinking your participation in WADT?

Fashionable or not - when it was hailing (yeah, I don't know) on my ride home this afternoon, I definitely stayed warm and dry.  But did I look cute?  That's for you all to decide ...

Have a great weekend!

xoxo
