Headache Pillows, Food and JAZZ!

Meet my new best friend.

Okay, I know it doesn't look like much.  It's a homemade headache pillow.  I literally sewed two pieces of fabric together inside out, leaving about an inch open.  Then I turned it right side out, filled it with rice and about a tablespoon of vanilla tea leaves, sewed it closed and voila!  I store it in a sealed ziplock bag in the freezer (that keeps the scent contained) and pull it out when the weather gets schizophrenic and my head wants to explode.  I lay it on my eyes and let the cold/vanilla combo do its thing on my sinuses.  (I imagine any kind of soothing tea would work as well!)

Anyway, I guess you can tell how my morning started.  I had a nagging headache when I woke up, but it only got worse as the morning went on.  I pulled out this pink beauty for about 30 minutes before lunch and it did the trick!  I scooted into work around 1.

BAKING QUESTION - I made these waffles from scratch because I was out of Bisquick.  I found a recipe online and they were good, but not as crispy on the outside / fluffy on the inside as I would have liked.  What baking product makes that happen?  I'm trying to learn the mechanics of baking (moving beyond recipes).

In other news, I am really looking forward to Sunday.  Last Sunday I preached one of the most emotional sermons of my entire life.  This Sunday I get to jam on my saxophone!  I can't wait.  I'm also really excited, because there is an incredible jazz pianist in our congregation and he is playing as well.  It's going to be an awesome service.

I'm not really sure what I'm going to play yet, I'm thinking I will just pick one of my favorite hymns and create a jazz riff off of the music in the hymnal.  Any suggestions?  Any favorite hymns?  Favorite songs in general?

Have a great night!  Tomorrow's FRIDAY!

  2. Did you use butter or oil in your waffles? I've tried to health-ify my waffles and when I didn't use butter/oil they weren't crispy.

  3. That pillow is such a great idea! I love the color too!

I too need to learn the mechanics of baking so I'm not much help there, sorry! The waffles looked yummy though!

Sounds like a great weekend ahead with music. Sorry no music suggestions either. I'm not really such what kinds of music your church plays, I'm only familiar with the kind of music you hear on KLOVE. Hope you have a wonderful weekend and keep up the great work!

    P.S. I'm lovin' the food pics! :)
