Breakfast and Breast Cancer

Happy OCTOBER!  Let's start the month off right, okay?

Say it with me - "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, breakfast is the most important meal of the day, breakfast is the most important meal of the day."  Do yourself a favor and give yourself some energy to get through the day, okay?

We are literally out of milk, bagels, bread, yogurt and all of my favorite oatmeal toppings so an omelette was on the menu with a little bit of cheddar cheese.  Topped with salt and pepper!

(Bruce would like me to tell you all that he is drinking coffee and eating a brownie.  Apparently the concept of good breakfast is lost on some people.)

Okay, onto a serious note.

Today marks the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  This is still kind of a tough subject for me to talk about.  When I was up north a few weeks ago, my mom and sister and I went to visit Lynn at the cemetery and I just stood where she is buried and sobbed.  I hate that such a horrific disease took such a wonderful person from us.

But ... rather than be angry, I am going to choose to remember the Lynn that I knew and loved.

The Lynn that showed up at my wedding after taking a red-eye in from the west coast the night before and practically jumped up and down as she asked to see our rings.  The Lynn who supported me in my path to ministry.  The Lynn who invited my family and me backstage at all of her shows.  The Lynn who showed a spirit of hospitality towards others that I strive for in my own life.

This is the Lynn that I will be honoring this month.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Who will you be honoring?

  1. My maternal grandmother died of breast cancer when my mother was 19, so I never go to meet her. I will be honoring her.

  2. that is such a horrible disease to have. My mommy beat it when I was about 8 and I didn't know about it until years later. They caught it in it's early stages, and I'm forever grateful for that

  3. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day! There, said it along with you. :) I don't see how anybody can skip breakfast- I'm dragging and cranky if I do.

Sorry to hear about Lynn. Fortunately I haven't had someone close to me pass away from breast cancer, but my childhood neighbor had it a few years ago but was lucky enough to catch it before it took her life.
