Feelin' Crafty

What a morning!  I'm pretty sure I used up most of my rollover minutes just in the phone conversations I've had so far today.  Oy!

However - one of those phone conversations was with Miguel, the director of Children's Rescue Mission, the organization that was basically the catalyst that started my journey into ministry.

Miguel has been a father figure in my life and has believed in me even when I didn't believe in myself.  He is on his way to Honduras right now to check in with the mission and will be there until March 3 - please keep him in your prayers!

(This photo was taken during my last trip there, which was in 2005 - 6 years ago!  I can't believe it's been that long.)

By the time 10:30 rolled around, I hadn't eaten breakfast and decided to make a bigger brunch so I would be covered for lunch.  On the menu?  A Breakfast Rice Bowl.

Have you tried this combination yet?  It's amazing!

Balance in a bowl. :)

How pathetic is this - by the time I got around to pouring my first cup of coffee, the machine had already automatically shut off!  So the coffee was luke warm - sad!

One of my favorite parts about food blogging is the creativity of it all.  For me, it's not about obsessing over every single morsel of food that goes into my mouth.  Rather, it's about turning mealtime into something special.  It's about the presentation, it's about the experimentation.  It's about welcoming people into my kitchen.  In many ways, many of the values that started Wear a Dress Tuesday feed my desire to create a food blog that is full of delicious eye candy.

Over the past couple of months, I realized that I am seriously lacking in place mats!  The only ones I have are a set of four that I got for my bridal shower (they are yellow with flowers - I'm sure you all were tired of seeing them!).

The other day I was looking for something in the basement and I came across a pile of fabric swatches.  I realized that even though they were all different shapes, sizes and completely wrinkled, they were all big enough to turn into place mats!

Using a no-sew, iron on tape, I hemmed up the sides.  And badda-bing-badda-boom ...

Place mats!

Granted, they won't be selling at Pottery Barn anytime soon, but they'll get the job done!  I've got a few more pieces of fabric, so by the end of the day I should have a nice collection!  I'll take a picture of them all when I finish.

Speaking of finishing, I need to go finish start my sermon.  I'm preaching at the same church I preached at last week.  Apparently they liked me enough to ask me back!

Have a great day everyone!

  2. I really like your take on food blogging. I shy away from it because I probably would become a little obsessed and self conscious about what I'm eating all the time, but you consistently seem to balance it well.

  3. Love the new place mats you made! I really need to up the creativity done for my blog..or at least buy an actual table to photograph the food on and *then* worry about placemats. :P
