Why Did We Move Back To Connecticut?

Welp - Mother Nature is at it again!

That's officially the last time I blog about the perplexities of winter storms (dropping phrases like "it wasn't snowing in town" and "I don't know what's going on").  There is definitely about 6 inches of fresh snow at my house, it's still falling fast and furious and my plow STILL IS NOT FIXED!

Oh - and Bruce is at his parent's house.  So I'm on my own in the shoveling department (insert an "I'm a woman, hear me roar" face here).

Sure is pretty though ... :)

I'm not super hungry, but I thought I'd take a shoveling break and give myself some good fuel.

Yogurt, homemade granola, canned pineapple (a favorite as of left) and a little dusting of cinnamon.

You know, kind of like the "little dusting" of snow we're getting.

I'm already thinking about what I want my post-shoveling dinner to be.  Chili?  Soup?  Grilled Cheese?  I love these frigid snowy days for the comfort food options alone!

What are your favorite snow shoveling foods?  I think the answers from my friends and blog friends around the country will be fun.  For example, Melissa (in Louisiana) might say, "Oh my goodness, we wouldn't know what to do with all that snow, I don't even own a shovel!"  Whereas Christie (in Alaska) might say, "We don't shovel, we all just put plows on our cars and push it out of the way when we need to run an errand."

Actually, I have no idea if people in Louisiana own shovels.  Or if people in Alaska have plows on the front of their cars.  I really just like it when people give me recipes.  And I like it when people tell me stories.  So getting recipes with stories would be double the fun.

Alright, wish me luck - there is a long driveway full of snow calling my name.  See you later tonight!

p.s. I know I shouldn't announce to the world that Bruce is out of town.  You know - someone might come and try to attack me.  However, if you come and try to attack me tonight, there is a good chance I will hand you a shovel.  Consider yourself warned.  Over and out.

  1. 1) I would like to have a driveway to shovel. It would mean I had a driveway. Which would likely be attached to a house.

    2) I wish I had snow to shovel :( I miss snow. It might snow on Monday, but I will be in Ohio. Bummer.

    3) If we WERE to have snow, and I were to have something to shovel, and I were to refuel after shoveling, I might choose to eat grilled cheese. Made with sourdough bread, real butter, and at least two kinds of cheese... cheddar? monterey jack? gouda? Or, potentially, Pioneer Woman's mac and cheese, which I happen to have on the schedule for tomorrow night.

  2. I actually don't own a shovel, because it "doesn't snow here" (which is what EVERYONE told me when we moved here). However, it snowed about 15 inches a few weeks ago...so...I think I might should go purchase one! haha

So since I don't shovel..my favorite cold weather comfort food is Cracker Barrel's chicken and dumplings, but I have no idea how to make that. Of things I can actually make myself, I like a simple veggie chili that I found the recipe for in a fitness magazine once! (served with rice...of course! :))

  3. I've been impressed with our township this winter. They usually think it's a good idea to own plow half the road, but so far, so good. They even put out a brine solution yesterday so today's snow wouldn't get too slippery. I agree, it looked beautiful this morning. When I heard more is on the way tomorrow, too? Somehow that beauty dimmed for a minute :P

My favorite "snow food" is chicken soup, hands down. There's nothing like coming in from the cold and ice and warming up with a bowl of it!

    Good luck with the shoveling!!

  4. sorry you are stuck to the shoveling alone, I shoveled alone here today, but it wasn't near as much snow.

I love ya for doing it and the next storm I'll do it alone if you want me to.

I'd eat some of that pork if it was me. Love ya hun

  5. It so gorgeous!! You definitely can't be upset with Mother Nature for bringing us such artwork..even if it keeps us cooped up in the house all day long. :P I wish I was seeing snow again..but I'll be moving further South again ina few days, so I'll just enjoy your view instead.

  6. HAHAHA! I loved this post! You are correct, that is EXACTLY what i would say: "Oh my goodness, we wouldn't know what to do with all that snow, I don't even own a shovel!" LOL. Nobody has a shovel here. Well, they do, but not a SNOW shovel. More like one to garden with, or something. But we, personally, do not have a shovel for gardening or otherwise. :)

By the way, it has snowed in LA, more recently than not (i think December 2008, if i remember right), but even then you don't need a shovel...it will melt before you have to go anywhere. :)

But favorite cold-weather food is CHILI for sure, only i still haven't made chili. Also, gumbo. Haven't made that before either. I am going to learn how to do both of those this year! :)
