Creative Leftovers

Home again!

Feels good to be back in my kitchen.

(Put that on the list of things I never thought I would hear myself say ... )

Bruce and I left Pennsylvania around 1:15 and made fantastic time back to Connecticut.  We pulled right up the driveway spun the tires for about 30 seconds before the car finally got some traction and made it up the driveway, unpacked and promptly grabbed shovels so we could have a clear driveway before the next big snowstorm hits.

We are still eating our way through the leftovers in our fridge!  I thought maybe they would disappear while I was gone?  I pulled out the stew, but made a few changes to give it a different taste/texture.

I added a little bit of water to thin it out a bit, ground up some pepper and added rice.  I put a layer of cheese on top of the soup and then topped with crushed crackers.

Delicious if I do say so myself.  The texture put me in the mood for tortilla soup - does anyone have a good recipe?

The cold weather makes me crave coffee!  I bought this decaf before we left Atlanta - at Target!  It's Certified Fair Trade!  I didn't realize Target sold CFT, so I was psyched when I saw it.

I was in the mood to put a little bit of cream in it - weird.  Ever get like that?  It usually only happens to me at night.  First thing in the morning, I have to drink it black.

Look what I came home with!  Recipes from two of Bruce's aunts.  I'm excited to try these out!  I feel like family recipes are so precious, so I'm so honored the two of them were willing to share with me (and then give me some of their tricks).  I married into a good family.  :)

It was a nice little blog break (ha - I was gone for all of one day), but it's good to be back!  I missed you guys.

Night!

Glad you made it home! I just got home yesterday too so I know exactly what you mean when you say it feels good to be back in your own kitchen!

  3. Looks like you did good with the leftovers! I didn't go to the store the week after Christmas and we used up all our food we had 'sitting' around. Felt good to see it gone!
I have an amazing Tortilla Soup recipe that I love and seems to be a favorite of all who try it!

  4. SO, i'm pretty sure i've never told you this, but i have this thing about people who drink they're coffee black. Like, i think it's really sophisticated, or something. If someone comes over & takes their coffee black, i'm always impressed & wishing i could do it! HAHAHAH! i meant to tell you that before b/c i always see pics of your black coffee! And i still think you rock w/ cream in your coffee LOL, it's just that it reminded me to tell you!
