Snowy Sunday

Oh the weather outside is frightful ...

The storm that blanketed the lower east coast has finally reached us here in Connecticut!

It was cold, but still dry this morning when I left for church.  I kept sneaking peaks out the window during worship to see if the snow had started falling!

In lieu of a sermon, my mom and the organist prepared a carol sing / music program for worship.  It was fun!  We got to request hymns to sing in between anthems and solos.  My dad sang a solo with the organist's daughter.  She's a professional violinist and was in town for the holidays - what a treat!

After church my sister got a text from her roommate about 45 minutes south of us that said it was "raining snow" at their apartment.  It was starting to fall lightly up near us, so we rushed over to my parent's house and Bruce helped my dad with his snow blower while I went grocery shopping in my parents fridge and pantry (ha).  I heated up some leftovers from our Christmas Dinner for lunch.

Again, I took a little bit of everything.

I heated everything except the gravy in the microwave.  The gravy I heated on the stove.

After everyone made a plate, my mom and I separated out the leftovers so I could take some home.  I made my mother-in-law's pie crust this afternoon and I am going to make a Christmas Dinner Leftover Pie tomorrow!

Once the crust was chilling in the freezer, Bruce and I set up camp in the basement.  We opened the curtain on the slider door that goes to the bottom deck and are watching NCIS with a picturesque view of the snow falling.  It's magical in a way ...

Dinner was a giant salad, made from leftovers from our Feliz Navidad Dinner Party.

Lettuce, diced tomatoes, diced onions, seasoned beef and Mexican blend cheese, all drizzled in taco sauce.  I ripped up a flour tortilla and served it on the side.

My dad told me to take one of his Peanut Butter Pies home with me, so I cut a piece for dessert.  I cannot describe how subtly delectable this pie is.

Yum.

It's only 7:30, but it feels like it's almost midnight!  I'm exhausted.  I think it's time for me to curl up with some cookbooks and a cup of hot cocoa.  My mom gave me Giada at Home a few weeks ago and my sister gave me 5 Ingredient Fix for Christmas and I can't wait to start cooking my way through them!

Goodnight all!  I'll see you in the morning with our snow accumulation.

  1. I'm so jealous of your snow right now! As I look out my window I can see lots of snow... way in the mountains! But not in my back yard and it makes me so sad!
I love when we have music programs for worship! It's so very special :-)
