A Present For My Knees - New Sneakers

Good Monday morning!  According to my friend Kristin, it's Fresh Start Monday!  What are you looking to accomplish this week?

I have about 21-24 miles worth of running to look forward to this week.  I ran 20.75 miles last week and have officially moved into 20+ mile weeks!  If you had told me I would be where I am right now a few weeks ago, I would have thought you were nuts.

The good news is that I have a new pair of running sneaker to tackle these miles on!

These are the sneakers that have been supporting me in my runs, the asics gel 1140.  These were NOT the sneakers that I was running in when I did damage to my knee back in college, and I really believe that the gels and support that asics offer (this is my second pair) have been a huge part of my rehab.

But alas, the soles were completely worn and it was time to replace them.  I didn't want to spend the money, but I realized that it made more sense to spend less than $100 now and replace my sneakers rather than spend $35,000 to get a knee replacement later on.

And yes, I just googled, "how much does a knee replacement cost" and got that number from this article.  Who knew it would cost that much?  I would have guess $10,000.

Anyway, here is my new support system ...

The asics gel 1150.  No, they don't look any different than my old ones.  Yes, they are basically the same shoe, just the updated model.  No, I didn't try on anything else before I bought these.  Yes, I am a creature of habit.

I don't know, I just feel like a good pair of running sneakers are like a good pair of jeans.  You just don't mess with a good thing.

I'm definitely not going to get rid of my old pair, but I wore my new ones to the Greek Festival yesterday to break them in and they feel great!  I can't wait to hit the pavement this afternoon.  3-4 miles on the schedule!

Have a great day!

  1. I think they're def a great investment especially since you're running 20+ miles per week!!! Holy cow woman! That's a whole lot of running! But good for you!

  2. I love that you googled the cost of knee replacement surgery. LOL It does help put the cost of new shoes in perspective though, huh?
