Food, Music and More Breasts

Don't you like my titles these days?  It's almost like all creativity has been sucked from my fingers.

I hope you all are having a wonderful Saturday!  Psalm 118:24 - This is the day that the Lord has made!

Now that's my kind of weather!  I was going to get up early for a run this morning, but then I realized that fall has officially fallen and I no longer have to plan my runs around the heat and humidity!  I'm sure you are getting tired of hearing me say it, but I LOVE FALL!  We had our slider door open last night and I fell asleep to the sound of crickets chirping and leaves rustling - it was like the sound of angels singing.

Speaking of angels singing.  I am currently enjoying a late brunch while listening to the CD of my sweet friend Pema.  She is part of a group called Siren and the CD is called Vortex.  Oh and OH.MY.GOSH this music is incredible.  You can download the mp3s off of amazon here or buy the CD here.  Definitely check out the previews, especially of Bird Spitir & Amazing Grace - it will give you chills.

Black coffee and waffles for brunch!

Kari got me this mug in college.  It says, "You know you've had too much coffee when you don't sweat, you percolate."  HA!  If you can believe it, I've actually cut down on the amount of coffee I drink since college.

Yum.

So Bruce asked me last night if I was becoming a food blogger.  Honestly, I don't really have an answer to that question.  I've never really been a fan of labeling bloggers - mommy bloggers, food bloggers, infertility bloggers, etc.  I think it puts definitive parameters on a person and the blog starts to define them, not the other way around.

During my first year of my master's I was working in a homeless shelter as part of my contextual education.  My supervisor said something that really resonated with me.  He said that we shouldn't call the residents of the shelter "homeless", we should call them "people or persons living in homelessness".  When you call them homeless you are defining them as something and now allowing them to move on.  When you describe a current situation they are living in or experiencing you allow them to change.

All that is to say - I am in a really good place in my life right now.  I am married to a wonderful man, I have a master's degree and I have incredible family and friends (both those I know in real life and those I have met because of this blog).  Sometimes I can't believe that I have all of this and I am only 25 years old!  I am insanely blessed.  For the first time in my life, I am not in school and I can actually do things like make a good breakfast and cook a balanced dinner.  Training for this half marathon has been fun and challenging and is making feeling so much stronger - both physically and mentally.  I don't feel stressed all the time, caught up on deadlines and grades and program requirements.  Rather, I am marveling at all that is good in the world - and in this beautiful city that I am currently calling "home".

So, yes - because of all of this, I'm finding myself in awe over the simple things that I've never had the opportunity to do before, like eating breakfast on the porch while listening to music.  And because 99.9% of the time I have a camera in my hand, I can't help but take pictures.  In a way I could be moving over to the world of food blogging - and it wouldn't be a bad thing, I love reading food bloggers!  They give me such great ideas about recipes, meals and healthy living.  But I think more so it also just shows where I am in my life right now.  I'm happy, I'm healthy and I'm on a quest to be stronger physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

And with that ... let's talk about breasts!

Bruce and I are kind of on a spending freeze these days (we have too much STUFF!), but that hasn't stopped me from perusing all of the wonderful items out for sale that support breast cancer research.  Check out the Susan G. Komen online shop for all sorts of fun and functional (meaning you can use them in your everyday life, they won't just gather dust) items.

My favorite is the Night Out Watch.

Also, if you're not interested in ordering something, head over to your local Macy's!  I actually saw this item on the fourth hour of the Today Show yesterday and headed over to their website to investigate.

Clinique Great Lips, Great Cause Keychain.  This is an actual key ring that you can use with Clinique lipsticks on it and a breast cancer pink ribbon.  The best part?  The $16 price tag - totally affordable! (Whereas the watch I'm drooling over is $60.) Check out Macy's Breast Cancer Awareness site for more fun stuff to buy.

Okay, I've covered music, food (apparently my life) and breasts.  Anything else and I fear blogger will tell me I've rambled on too long and won't let me publish!  I'm off - I've got 7 miles on my schedule!

Have a great day!

  1. It's the simple things in life that count and it's so great you're able to realize just ow blessed you are. So many people have amazing lives but focus so much on what "it could be"..but if they just stop to look at what they have, they'd be in love.

And I feel the same way about labeling, I mean yes..there are some obvious bloggers like gaming, photography, wedding..stuff like that. But if you look at food, I think we're more of "healthy living" bloggers unless our posts are straight up about recipes and food. I mean even in this post you touched on life, happiness, fitness, and a little bit of food. We're multi-dimensional :)
